Liten historielektion om Pippa's Place

April 08 2005,22:10

I took them 4 years ago in about April 2001. Like I said before, Mike Frankovich, Bernd and Christel from BBCD Boots were over here visiting Paul who ran Pippa's Place. I was invited up there to observe a day's shooting and to meet them all, though I had met Mike previously and had been in touch with him for several years. Let's go right back to the start of it all...

I originally got in touch with Mike in 1995. I was in a newsagent's shop in Norwich where I lived at the time (in Norwich that is, not in a newsagent's) when I spotted a bunch of magazines on the top shelf, the like of which I have never seen before, called "Rubberist" and "Dressing For Pleasure." In addition to having a big fetish for women in jodhpurs and riding boots, I also love women in boots and tasteful, moderate fetish clothes i.e. PVC, leather, latex, particularly thus dressed in wet and messy situations. Anyway, this one magazine had this front cover with two women in catsuits and boots fighting in a load of mud so I bought a couple of them and at that moment my life was turned around. Up until then, like most people among us, I always thought that I was some kind of freak having all these fetishes and then I discovered that there was actually this big group of people into all the same stuff. Mike Frankovich had done a lot for these magazines, artwork and stories etc and some of them were as if straight out of my imagination. I wrote to him not really expecting anything, but a great exchange of correspondence followed. We swapped loads of ideas, contacts (which I had started making), artwork, writing etc. When I first got in touch with him, I was in my early twenties, unhappily married to some totally blinkered non-entity and my life was going in completely the opposite direction to anything that I wanted. So I chucked it all in, the marriage, house and everything, stayed in touch with Mike and then first met him in about 1997 when I was living in Sudbury down on the Essex/Suffolk border. Then I met him again in 2000 after I had moved back here to Bristol. This was around the time I first got on the Internet and was aware of all the WAM sites featuring women in boots and sometimes horse riding clothes such as Pippa's Place, BBCD Boots, Mired and others, some of which have disappeared since. So the next year, when Mike was over again, I got the call to go up to the North West to see some of the stars of the web sites and photographers in action.

Up until then I was doing mostly writing and a bit of artwork, and I had only done a few private photos of girlfriends (none of which are in existence any longer). So I drove the 250-odd miles and took along my Olympus AF10 35mm with a couple of films just thinking I'd take a few pictures. They are a really good and kind bunch of people and they were all being especially nice to me because I was the new boy. We did 2 shoots, the first of Pippa and Christel in PVC catsuits and boots in a little dock yard of them posing around some cranes and machinery, and then down in the mud by the water followed by them hosing each other off (nice). Then the next was both of them in different leather and latex outfits and boots in a private swimming pool. I'd intended to take only a moderate number of pictures, but I was clattering through loads and this other bloke also called Mike who was there, who had a long since disappeared website, kept bunging me extra films every time I ran out. I took about 150 or more altogether. On the way back to their house after this second shoot, Pippa said to me that I could use up my remaining pictures by doing a 'private' shoot of her in whatever clothes I wanted. I made my mind up instantly of course about what she should wear and the results are above. I didn't know shit then about how to get a model to pose properly or anything, but luckily she made it really easy for me. I spent the most pleasant evening indeed after that, especially as Pippa never got changed for the rest of the night after that shoot, and we spent quite a bit of time talking and having a laugh. Various other people of the WAM clan visited during the evening and the whole thing was pretty damn remarkable. I immediately made up my mind that photography was the way I wanted to go and the rest is history. Having recapped on all this is making me think how much I need to get a new model ASAP.

Sadly, Paul and Pippa drifted apart and Pippa's Place finally disappeared sometime in 2002. Look at these pictures and any others you can find of Pippa and weep at the loss of a great model...

In 1998 I remember Riding Apparel Lovers Paradise (RALP) as one of the top two ridingboot and riding attire sites. The two ridingboot sites first emerged in 1998, or so I think.

The other site, which was arguably the best at the time, was Joris Ridingboots and Ridingclothes on Simplenet.com. The site then changed its name to In Love With Ridingboots and moved to its own cyberspace. It closed down for a while in 2000 or 2001 and emerged again in late 2002 or 2003 as Ridingboots Forever. I don't like the direction they have gone in; exclusive emphasis on Aigle rubber boots, and the models are not attractive.

About Riding Apparel Lovers Paradise, in the beginning it was an excellent site with many pictures of fully attired equestrian women. It also had good stories, better than Joris's site and the ridingboot forums that once existed. In 2000 it seemed to focus instead on men, thus a gay theme. I stopped paying attention to the site in 2000. It looks as if the site closed down permanently on Nov 26, 2001. The owner probably still has all the pictures of fully-attired women posing or on their horses. If only someone can get a hold of him. This source would be a good update base for Joddyman for the Web Gallery.

Good thing Jodphurfetish emerged in 2000. It supplanted RALP and Joris's site as the best equestrian site in cyberspace. Jodphurfetish also has a large selection of stories, more than Ridingboots.net.

Ridingboots.net was always a pretty good site from its beginning in I think was late 1998. It was not really big. They have emerged as a major, prominent site ever since it went to pay-only in late 2000 or 2001. They have access to many pretty models, but they charge too much. They focus more on nudity, and I was not impressed with the site for the month that I joined in early 2003. I believe the money would be better spend on true porn sites; the appeal of riding clothes is when the woman poses in it, or slightly loosens the articles for sexual intimacy or sex.

One site that has nine galleries of pictures of equestrian attired women is Celebrities in Boots (CIB) (Either on www.lanzadera.com or www.galeon.com or Fortunecity). It is a site that has many pictures of celebrity women in boots (basically skirts with knee-high fashion boots with high heels - similar to www.bootluv.com, formerly Booty Call). The annoying thing about CIB is that there is an annoying, big, box popup that covers a quarter of the screen, making viewing frustrating.

As stated before by Joddyman and others, the only way to survive on the Web is to be a pay site. The majority of the sites linked on Cyberage.com are pay sites. So many equestrian sites, or sites with boots that had some equestrian booted women pictures, that once appeared on Geocities, AOL, Fortunecity, Excite, Tripod, and likewise have disappeared in the last two or four years. The Yahoo Group sites are essentially archive sites for pictures that appeared on or are in other sites on the Web. They never get updated. Some of these Yahoo Groups sites have disappeared as well. The several that remain are no longer maintained or updated. A couple of them are alternative spaces for Jodphurfetish and Ridingboots.net, so it is fine that they are not updated.

It is good that we have Joddyman and Jodphurfetish. The price of admission is reasonable with a two-year or six-year/lifetime plan. Thank you for all your efforts Joddyman, Chloe, Olivia, and everyone else involved with the site or posting to it.

Two other sites have pictures of pants tucked into boots.Thighboots.com has been around since late 1997, and they have many sample pictures of pants or leather or spandex tucked into thighboots, and on rare occasion kneehigh boots with high heels. They have a couple of sample pictures of women in thighboots and looking equestrian. One is on their home page, and another is a sample in one of its issues (issue 7 I think) - the woman wears a blue blazer as well as tight striped breeches/leggings tucked into thighboots.Go-Go Boots Online has their own web space now and left Geocities in early 2001 (It seems as if everybody leaves Geocities.). They mainly focus on skirts with go-go boots or high-heeled kneehigh boots. They have some pictures of pants or tight pants tucked into boots, and rarely is the picture of an equestrian look.Finding pictures of equestrian women on the web is difficult. Only a select number of store sites have women modelling riding attire. Some sites do not feature or show its merchandise online. Some show only the merchandise without anybody modelling it. Maintaining a detailed site takes time, and hiring models costs money, and stores want to keep costs down. The best sites for observing and shopping are based in the US. 1) State Line Tack, 2) Equus Unlimited, and 3) Dover Saddlery. State Line Tack and Equus Unlimited have good prices on equestrian show attire and tall boots. Both sites, as well as Dover, feature attractive models in show attire. It is difficult to access any more new Web material unless one frequents horse shows. At shows one can get so many pictures of the fully-attired female riders, whether they are riding or waiting to ride. I hope these observations are helpful.

I forgot to mention that Thighboots.com is a pay site. The founder has a Geocities site called Temple of the Boot, which still exists but is no longer updated because of the emergence of Thighboots. ... I personally do not think thighboots go well with equestrian attire, but others like it.Go-Go Boots is a free site, but they lost or no longer display a lot of pictures, when compared to its era on Geocities. It has a lot of links, but none of them are to ridingboots or riding apparel sites. I used to visit Go-Go Boots and its linked sites regularly before the ridingboots and riding apparel sites emerged. Several or even many of the links are to sites that no longer exist (several of which are Geocities sites).A site called Horseshows (Horseshows.de) has 24 galleries of women riding in horse shows or on the "sidelines" at horse shows. This site is a full version of the type of horse show pictures from Web Galleries 93 to 95. At times it has gone in and out of existence. But I do not think it has been updated in a while. Take a look at it if this interests you. Sometimes you never know when a site disappears for good. For anybody interested in women in lycra spandex and swimwear, the best site with so many different galleries of related pictures and video clips existed on AOL for over five years. The site is called Women in Spandex Killatron. They lost bandwidth or moved from AOL. They have rarely updated since Christmas Eve 2003. They may possibly disappear or exist with no more updates. I have also seen sites get created or in the middle of development and then the developer/web master stops. Developing and maintaining a site takes a lot of effort, and I take Joddyman's word for this. Let's not forget the strict policies by Visa regarding third party vendors such as PayPal, IBill, and likewise. These are my thoughts. Feel free to respond or comment.
