Liten historielektion om Pippa's Place

April 08 2005,22:10
I took them 4 years ago in about April 2001. Like I said before, Mike Frankovich, Bernd and Christel from BBCD Boots were over here visiting Paul who ran Pippa's Place. I was invited up there to observe a day's shooting and to meet them all, though I had met Mike previously and had been in touch with him for several years. Let's go right back to the start of it all...
I originally got in touch with Mike in 1995. I was in a newsagent's shop in Norwich where I lived at the time (in Norwich that is, not in a newsagent's) when I spotted a bunch of magazines on the top shelf, the like of which I have never seen before, called "Rubberist" and "Dressing For Pleasure." In addition to having a big fetish for women in jodhpurs and riding boots, I also love women in boots and tasteful, moderate fetish clothes i.e. PVC, leather, latex, particularly thus dressed in wet and messy situations. Anyway, this one magazine had this front cover with two women in catsuits and boots fighting in a load of mud so I bought a couple of them and at that moment my life was turned around. Up until then, like most people among us, I always thought that I was some kind of freak having all these fetishes and then I discovered that there was actually this big group of people into all the same stuff. Mike Frankovich had done a lot for these magazines, artwork and stories etc and some of them were as if straight out of my imagination. I wrote to him not really expecting anything, but a great exchange of correspondence followed. We swapped loads of ideas, contacts (which I had started making), artwork, writing etc. When I first got in touch with him, I was in my early twenties, unhappily married to some totally blinkered non-entity and my life was going in completely the opposite direction to anything that I wanted. So I chucked it all in, the marriage, house and everything, stayed in touch with Mike and then first met him in about 1997 when I was living in Sudbury down on the Essex/Suffolk border. Then I met him again in 2000 after I had moved back here to Bristol. This was around the time I first got on the Internet and was aware of all the WAM sites featuring women in boots and sometimes horse riding clothes such as Pippa's Place, BBCD Boots, Mired and others, some of which have disappeared since. So the next year, when Mike was over again, I got the call to go up to the North West to see some of the stars of the web sites and photographers in action.
Up until then I was doing mostly writing and a bit of artwork, and I had only done a few private photos of girlfriends (none of which are in existence any longer). So I drove the 250-odd miles and took along my Olympus AF10 35mm with a couple of films just thinking I'd take a few pictures. They are a really good and kind bunch of people and they were all being especially nice to me because I was the new boy. We did 2 shoots, the first of Pippa and Christel in PVC catsuits and boots in a little dock yard of them posing around some cranes and machinery, and then down in the mud by the water followed by them hosing each other off (nice). Then the next was both of them in different leather and latex outfits and boots in a private swimming pool. I'd intended to take only a moderate number of pictures, but I was clattering through loads and this other bloke also called Mike who was there, who had a long since disappeared website, kept bunging me extra films every time I ran out. I took about 150 or more altogether. On the way back to their house after this second shoot, Pippa said to me that I could use up my remaining pictures by doing a 'private' shoot of her in whatever clothes I wanted. I made my mind up instantly of course about what she should wear and the results are above. I didn't know shit then about how to get a model to pose properly or anything, but luckily she made it really easy for me. I spent the most pleasant evening indeed after that, especially as Pippa never got changed for the rest of the night after that shoot, and we spent quite a bit of time talking and having a laugh. Various other people of the WAM clan visited during the evening and the whole thing was pretty damn remarkable. I immediately made up my mind that photography was the way I wanted to go and the rest is history. Having recapped on all this is making me think how much I need to get a new model ASAP.
Sadly, Paul and Pippa drifted apart and Pippa's Place finally disappeared sometime in 2002. Look at these pictures and any others you can find of Pippa and weep at the loss of a great model...
